Henry Jenkins on Public Scholarship in Media Studies

In this audio installment of my #deuzevlog series on YouTube of interviews with scholars whose publications inspire and inform my work, I sit down with Henry Jenkins, Provost Professor of Communication, Journalism, Cinematic Arts and Education at the University of Southern California. With Henry we talk about life and career spanning well over three decades, exploring where his key ideas on participatory culture, youth activism and media literacy come from, how his youth and upbringing shaped his perspective and attitude, and how public scholarship can emerge and thrive in the contemporary university.

Our conversation concludes with a discussion of his most recent work on The Civic Imagination Project, and the two new books that just came out of this: Popular Culture and the Civic Imagination (edited by Henry Jenkins, Gabriel Peters-Lazaro and Sangita Shresthova), and Practicing Futures (by Gabriel Peters-Lazaro and Sangita Shresthova).
